Should I Cut My Eyelashes?
For most of us, the longer our eyelashes look, the happier we are. But some people can have naturally very long eyelashes that can get in the way or interfere with your line of vision.
Perhaps your lashes hit your brows whenever you blink, and it’s starting to annoy you. So, should you cut your eyelashes?
The majority of us would say that no, you should not really cut your eyelashes unless it is absolutely necessary due to them causing your discomfort.
Even if you do want to cut your eyelashes, only the tiniest trim would suffice. You need your eyelashes to keep dirt, dust and debris out of your eyes, so they are essential even if you find them a nuisance.
You should not cut your eyelashes if possible, but if you need to do it out of necessity, then make sure someone else does it for you as they will be able to see what they are doing much better, and only trim a little bit off after combing them through.
What Causes Eyelashes To Fall Out?
We all know how important eyelashes are to framing the face, as they complement the facial structure and draw attention to the eyes. If you’re concerned about your eyelashes being short or not growing back, then you should be aware of what can stunt their growth phase, or what can weaken the lash follicle.
For the most part, eyelash curlers are our nemesis. We’ve no idea who invented them, but they definitely need a slap on the back instead of a pat on the back! These devices are well known for tearing the lashes from the upper eyelid and can cause eyelash loss in seconds.
Another common cause is hair loss due to cancer treatment. This can be an unfortunate position to be in, and can be a little discerning, but some lash serum can help to stimulate the hair follicles and promote hair growth, or you can wear false lashes and lash extensions in the meantime if you prefer a full-length lash look.
Will Eyelashes Grow Back If Cut?
Perhaps you’ve accidentally lost some eyelashes, been fooled by your eyelash curler, or ripped them out when pulling mascara off. Trust us, we’ve all been there.
The good news is that eyelashes do grow back, much like your nails and hair grow back. We all have eyelash growth cycles, which are roughly 6-8 weeks, as this is how long it takes for your natural lashes to regenerate and for new lash regrowth.
However, if you have fully ripped out some of your eyelashes, then it can take longer than 8 weeks for the lashes to regrow, and some can take up to 200 days to a year to fully replenish after being lost.
Luckily, if you’ve only trimmed your lashes, then they will of course grow back and be back to normal within a few weeks, so there’s no need to panic!
If I Cut My Eyelashes, Will They Grow Back Thicker Or Fuller?
We’ve all heard the stories and old wives’ tales about shaving hairs and them coming back thicker, fuller, and stronger than ever before. But, is this the case with eyelashes?
Don’t be fooled into cutting them off in the hope of better, longer and stronger lashes, as it is simply not true.
Cutting your eyelashes will not encourage a magical growth where the lashes are more beautiful than ever before.
Cutting the eyelashes does not actually impact them at all, or get them to grow back nicer, it simply stunts them, and you have to wait for your natural lash growth cycle to go full circle until the eyelashes grow back to their normal length.
That being said, there are a few ways that you can encourage eyelash growth.
How Can I Make My Eyelashes Grow Back?
If you have accidentally shortened or trimmed your lashes, the bad news is that it’s an old wives tale that it makes them grow back stronger and thicker. So, you’ve accidentally (or intentionally) trimmed your eyelashes.
It’s not the end of the world, and you don’t have to hide your eyes or wear sunglasses everywhere. Eyelashes grow back, but we can encourage them to grow back quicker with a few hints and tips.
For instance, you can make use of some eyelash growth serums, which work to nourish and revitalize the lashes to help the eyelashes grow back faster. Our favorites are the Pronexa Lavish Lash Growth Enhancer – it’s dermatologist certified, cruelty free and hypoallergenic.
It’s packed with biotin and minerals to help encourage growth faster. Alternatively, you can try using this Premium Eyelash Serum and Enhancer which promises fuller, thicker lashes.
If you don’t want to invest in an eyelash growth serum, you can always try applying some castor oil to the lashes with a spoolie brush.
This is a proven method of moisturizing and nourishing the lashes for increased growth. Kate Blanc Cosmetics – Castor Oil comes with a spoolie to apply to the lashes to improve their overall health.
To ensure that your lashes grow back healthier, try to avoid using waterproof mascara and eyeliner, as these are very hard to get off and can lead to bacteria build up on the lash line. You can also try using a mascara infused with collagen to help promote growth.
If you are insecure about bald patches, then you can get lash extensions in the meantime, but ensure the lash extensions are fitted and removed properly so that they are non-damaging.
Finally, keep on top of regular maintenance by brushing out the lashes to remove tangles, never rub the eyes, and nourish the lashes as frequently as possible.
What To Do While Lashes Are Growing Back?
If you’re feeling insecure because you have lost some of your own lashes, then you can have eyelash extensions or false eyelashes in the meantime.
If these are applied by a professional, they will not damage the natural lashes and will make you feel gorgeous whilst your natural lashes grow back.
You can also try strip lashes that you simply glue on yourself if you have an event that you need to go to, or if you don’t have time to make an appointment for eyelash extensions.
If you don’t like eyelash extensions, then try using a growth-enhancing mascara on the lashes you have left until they grow back to their former glory.
You can also use eyeliner to define the eyes, which will also hide any stubby eyelashes that have been cut or broken off.
Don’t worry, the short eyelashes won’t last forever, and they’ll be back to their original length in no time. Generally speaking, the life cycle of lashes is about 3 months for the hair follicle to grow out.
Summary
To summarize, you should not be cutting your eyelashes unless it is absolutely necessary for your wellbeing. However, accidents can happen, and your lashes may even break or fall off.
The good news is that they will begin to grow back if cut within about 8 weeks. Whilst you wait, you can also use lash enhancers and false lashes or extensions to keep you feeling and looking like your best self!
