A full set of eyelash extensions can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours to apply, so we wouldn’t advise booking an appointment if you are in a hurry. The application process is very intricate and requires a hefty amount of patience from you and your lash stylist.
Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent fiber lashes that are hand glued and attached to the natural lash to enhance their fullness, thickness, and length.
A full set of these extensions typically consists of around 70 to 100 lashes per eye. Sometimes it may even be more than this.
The whole process takes so long because your stylist will be attaching each of these extensions to your individual lashes. They will begin by separating the eyelashes, and they will then hold each single lash as they work on it.
The lash extension is then dipped into medical-grade glue before it is stuck to your eyelash. As you can imagine, repeating this process between 70 to 100 times for each eye is going to consume a lengthy amount of time.
There are factors that can influence the longevity of the process. For example, it depends on the current thickness and length of each individual’s eyelashes.
It also depends on how many eyelashes you have, because this can differ between individuals. Whilst some people can have 100 or more lashes, others can have as little as 50.
Of course, the process is going to consume less time on individuals who have fewer eyelashes. It will also depend on the experience of the stylist.
Those that have only recently qualified in giving this beauty treatment are more likely to take the full two hours to apply each of the individual lashes. However, those that are more advanced with a lot of experience in doing eyelash extensions are likely to take less time. Do Store-Bought Eyelash Extensions Look Fake?.
Arriving at your appointment with a makeup-free face helps to reduce the amount of time that your stylist spends removing any eye makeup and foundation that is near the eye region.
As expected, your appointment will take longer if your stylist has to spend time removing any traces of makeup rather than getting straight into applying the lashes.
If you intend on having custom lashes made specifically to compliment the shape of your eye, a consultation with your stylist before your appointment will provide you with an opportunity to discuss the material that you would like, along with your desired shape and length.
Discussing all of your preferences with your stylist during this time will allow them to familiarize themselves with your expectations so that they can ensure they are met.
It also means that they can begin your eyelash appointment equipped with the knowledge of what you are having without having to spend a considerable amount of time discussing it with you beforehand.
We would also recommend that you avoid eating or drinking any foods that have a high sugar or caffeine content before heading into your appointment, especially if there is a chance that such foods or beverages may make you a little shaky or jittery.
This is because the task of applying eyelash extensions becomes much more challenging for your stylist if your eyelashes are moving constantly.
You should also turn off your mobile phone before your appointment begins to ensure that it doesn’t cause any interruptions. Regularly reaching for your phone to respond to phone calls or messages is only going to end up adding time to your appointment.
Your eyelash extensions will also need to be touched up around every 2 to 3 weeks to replace any lashes that have fallen out since the initial appointment. The time that this appointment lasts will depend on the number of relashes required.
In some cases, this can take an hour and in others, it can take as little as half an hour. If you properly maintain and care for your extensions, it is unlikely that you will need to have a huge amount of extensions replaced.
Instead, you will require a few lash infills to fill in any gaps where the initial extensions have fallen out. In this instance, the appointment is likely to consume less time.
If you fail to take proper care of your extensions, they are going to need more attention in your touch-up appointment so you should expect to be there for longer.
If you do not have the time available to dedicate to a lengthy two hour appointment for a full set of extensions, you may opt for half a set instead. Although a half set of extensions has a similar effect to a full set in the sense that they add length and thickness to your natural lashes, fewer fibers are used.
Similar to a full set of extensions, they are available in a variety of styles to cater to different preferences and eye shapes. Because fewer lashes are used in a half set, the application process will consume less time.
Whilst applying a full set typically takes two hours to complete, it is likely that it will take your stylist around an hour and a half to attach a half set of extensions.
You will still need to attend touch-up appointments to replace any lashes that have fallen out since your first appointment. The amount of time that this touch-up appointment takes will depend on how many lashes need replacing.
Although maintenance and touch-up appointments are a necessity in ensuring that your eyelash extensions are always looking your best, at some point in the future you are going to require a new set. Can you taper eyelash extensions?.
Of course, this means that you will find yourself spending two hours at your appointment again, however, if your lashes are taken care of and maintained from the get go, this will not be such a regular occurrence for you.
If you fail to take the appropriate care of your extensions and don’t attend your touch-up appointments, you will find yourself having a completely new set more regularly.
