How Long Do Lash Extensions Last?

How long do lash extensions last

When it comes to getting ready and feeling glam for the day,  we all have those days where we just can’t be bothered. Sometimes it feels like a lot of unnecessary effort just to feel human, doesn’t it?

And while we are the first to say you don’t need make-up and that embracing your natural beauty is fantastic, there is no shame in wearing makeup or wanting to feel glam.

It’s where lash extensions come in to save the day! No more fiddling with lash strips and glue or dealing with clumpy and dried-up mascara; let a professional create the lash look you have been craving.

Whether it’s a full and dramatic lash or a delicate daytime look, lash extensions leave you looking ready for the world no matter what.

But how long do they last? Lash extensions can be expensive, and the last thing you want to do is end up spending every Thursday having your lashes done.

But fear not, we are here to answer all your lash-related questions so you can book your appointment (and return appointments)  with confidence!

How long do full-set lashes last?

Typically, a full set of lashes will last between six to eight weeks. These lashes are designed to last a full growth cycle of your natural lashes, which is on average between six to eight weeks.

Once this time has passed, you can book yourself in where a beautician will remove any remaining lashes, and you can either walk away or have a new set of lashes put in.

The amount of time that the lashes will last vary from person to person as we all have slightly different hair growth times. Ever wonder why your friend’s hair seems to grow daily, but yours doesn’t? Well, you can thank genetics (partly) for that!

As the hair growth period can vary, you can notice lash growth or loss at different rates, and some people might find they need their lashes changed every four weeks rather than six weeks.

You might notice that your extensions have grown out or that you have lost some lashes on one eye more than the other.

These are all completely normal, although if your lashes are lasting less than four weeks, we would recommend changing to a different beautician or speaking to your lash technician to get to the bottom of the issue.

While some people will find their lashes will last a full eight weeks, most of us will be in the six to eight-week bracket before we pay a visit to our lash specialist.

Some lash technicians recommend popping in for light maintenance around the three to four-week mark to maintain a full and fresh-looking lash but be mindful that there will be an added cost to this.

These in-fill treatments will fill any gaps and help to maintain your full and voluminous lashes (or natural and wispy lash extensions) for another few weeks.

How long do lash extensions last?

You can expect about six weeks from your lash extensions before they will need to be replaced.

Lash extensions are attached to your lash and will last as long as the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes, which is on average around the six to eight-week mark.

If your lash extensions aren’t lasting that long or are falling out, speak to your lash technician or find another one, as this should not be happening!

A few lashes dropping out is to be expected, but if you find yourself losing a lot or that the extensions aren’t lasting a few weeks, something has gone wrong.

The amount of time your lash extensions will last also depends on the type of lash you have selected.

Generally speaking, there are three types of lash extensions, mink, silk, and synthetic. Each of these types will deliver a different look and vary in their lifespan from six to eight weeks.

There is little difference in the lifespan of these types of lashes, so it’s best to select the material and style that best suits your eyes and your needs.

However, if you are concerned about the lifespan, it’s best to speak to your lash specialist; after all, they will have the best and most up-to-date advice for you and your eyes!

While the lifespan of the lashes is essential, it comes down to your natural life cycle more than anything else.

If your lashes take a while to grow, then chances are your lash extensions will last for weeks and weeks; if not, you might be spending more time than you would like having in-fills or your extensions reapplied to maintain the full lash look that we all love.

How can I make my lashes last longer?

There are a few ways that you can ensure your lashes last longer and in better condition, saving you money and frequent salon trips! The first 48 hours are crucial and in this time, avoid water coming into contact with your eyes.

Water will reduce the effectiveness of the glue, leaving lashes falling out before their time! Previously laughed at people showering with goggles on to protect their lashes, well you are now one of those people!

It’s best to avoid steam, too, as it can also impact the glue. Avoid steams, steam baths, swimming with your eyelash extensions, or washing your face with hot water for the following two days. Can I Wash My Face With Eyelash Extensions?.

Lukewarm water will be fine to wash your face, but don’t use any oil-based cleansers and moisturizers as these two can break down the glue!

It’s also best to avoid perming or curling your lash extensions. The materials used are often too delicate to handle these treatments.

Instead, brush your lashes every morning with a spoolie (a clean mascara wand) to keep them looking their best!

You can also purchase lash conditioners to help extend your lashes’ longevity and keep them looking as fresh as the day you had them!

These are best applied at night, allowing them plenty of time to soak in and get to work before your day starts!

A combination of or all of these tips will keep your lashes in place and fantastic condition for longer, but remember to speak to your lash specialist if you have any concerns or queries. How much should I tip my eyelash extension artist?
