What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are a semi-permanent beauty service that involves using eyelash glue and glueing false eyelashes to the natural lashes and lash line. Eyelash extensions come in many different shapes and forms.
You can get strip lashes that are joined together by a thin strip, which is then hand-glued to the lash line with lash glue to be worn once, or for an evening.
By far the most popular type of eyelash extensions are the ones applied directly to the lashes to extend them. These can be applied with single, individual lashes, or with fan lashes and Russian style lashes.
These lash extensions are typically faux mink lash extensions or silk fibers that are applied strand by strand to your eyelashes.
Unlike strip false lashes, which are applied to the skin, lash extensions are attached directly to the natural lash with lash glue, blending in perfectly with your own natural eyelashes, and lasting for so much longer.
How long do eyelash extensions last?
The result of lash extensions is that you get lush, dense, envious and eye-catching eyelashes that are securely attached to the natural lashes, lasting for far longer than other types of semi-permanent lashes or strip eyelashes.
Eyelash extensions are attached to the natural lash, so they typically last as long as your own natural eyelashes’ growth cycle which is about 5-6 weeks. However, you may notice that you lose some as a few will fall out within the first few days.
As long as you gently brush or comb the lashes with a spoolie brush, and have refills whenever needed, you can keep your eyelash extensions for a few weeks.
How often do you need to refill eyelash extensions?
If you want to ensure that your lash extensions still look phenomenal, then you will need to ensure that you maintain them properly. This entails cleaning the lash extensions, combing them by gently brushing regularly so that they do not get tangled, and having refill appointments.
Most lash stylists will recommend that you have refill or infill appointments every two to three weeks to keep your eyelash extensions looking perfect, dramatic and spectacular. This will also ensure that there are no gaps or sparse areas on the lashes, and that you still look as great as when you first had them done!
How much does it cost to refill eyelash extensions?
A full set of lash extensions can range anywhere between $100 to $200 depending on the salon or beauty therapist that you go to. The whole application process can take up to two hours at first, but the refill process is a little shorter.
The refill appointment can often take about an hour or so, and can often cost much less to have the lashes refilled. The cost of this appointment can range between $55 to $65 depending on your location.
How long does an eyelash refill last?
To maintain the best looking results, you will need to head to a refill appointment every few weeks. Most stylists will recommend you get this beauty treatment done every 2-4 weeks.
Lash extensions generally last about 6 weeks with a refill appointment in between, but you can just wait until they naturally all fall out with your eyelash growth cycle after about 6 weeks.
With regular refill appointments every two or three weeks, you can keep your lash extensions going for much longer, until they all fall out naturally, or until you stop going for appointments.
Your lash artist will tell you that you will also not want to get the lashes wet straight after the appointment is over and for the first 48 hours. You should also avoid rubbing your eyes or pulling them out, and make sure that you remove makeup before your appointment!
So, technically, if you keep on top of having refill appointments and regularly wash, brush your eyelashes and clean the lashes daily, you can keep your lash extensions indefinitely.
This is why so many beauty therapists and avid eyelash enthusiasts swear by keeping their refill appointments ongoing and booked in!
How long is an eyelash extension refill appointment?
A typical lash extension appointment can take anywhere from one to two hours, depending on whether you want a wispy, individual lash look, or whether you want a fuller, more dramatic look with Russian lashes. It can also take a while for the lash extension stylist to add all of the semi permanent fibers to your own natural lashes.
The appointment will generally take a while, with the licensed beauty therapist taking their time, trying to ensure that they get it right. So, sit back, relax, or even have a nap!
Then, when it’s time to go back for your infill or refill appointment, you can expect the process to be a little quicker, of about 45 minutes to an hour.
However, this does depend on how long it has been since your initial appointment, how many lashes you have lost, and whether you want a fuller look again, or something more natural.
Are eyelash refills worth it?
If you want to maintain that perfect, fanned out eyelash and stunning eye makeup look, then refill appointments are a must have!
However, it does depend on how much time you have, your budget and how well you care for your lashes.
Sometimes, going back to the salon every 2 or 3 weeks is not for everyone, and it can be hard to fit in time to get yet another lash extension, whereas others would not ever be without a lash appointment!
